After six incredible years working out of our studio in the heart of Carlsbad, California, Ginger Rabe Designs, LLC and Seaside Drafting & Design, LLC are announcing a major and exciting transition: We are moving out of our physical studio space and becoming fully mobile. We are NOT closing down, far from it. We are growing.
Over the past several years, our work has naturally shifted. Our team spends most of our time out in the field: on job walks, on-site with our general contractors and engineers, working digitally from mobile locations, and meeting our clients wherever they are to make their experience easier and more personal. Our collaboration remains strong, detailed, and seamless, even without a single fixed location.
Our Carlsbad studio was a beloved home for six years. We absolutely loved it, watching it evolve into a place where clients could see cabinetry we built, explore materials, and experience how everything ties together, as well as collaborating on plans and how their dream homes were to be built.
It was inspiring, personal, and full of creativity. But with our new cabinet production shop now offering a complete showroom, and with samples routinely brought directly to our clients’ job sites, it became clear that we simply aren’t in the studio enough to justify keeping the space.
This decision carries deep emotion for Ginger. When she acquired the studio six years ago, while her son was still young, she wondered whether the business would flourish. It did. This studio was where her family business grew from just herself and one team member to as many as seven. It is where Seaside Drafting & Design, Design Coach Collective, and the early spark of Single Story’s Podcast were born. Many friendships were formed here, and many dogs and familiar faces passed through the door over the years.
Six years ago, when Ginger first took the space, an industry colleague told her, “If you ever decide to give it up, I want it first.” After nine months of thoughtful conversations, Ginger made the final decision: at the end of December, the studio will officially transition into new hands. It will no longer be a design or drafting studio, but Ginger is genuinely excited for what it will become and plans to visit often. The new owners will share their own announcement soon.
This past year alone, our team has traveled across the country and up and down the California coastline for project work. Becoming fully mobile aligns with where we are today, and where we are going. We expect to have a new permanent home in the future, but for now, the freedom to move, grow, and expand is exactly what our next chapter requires.
And 2026 is shaping up to be extraordinary. Seaside Drafting & Design will begin the process of pursuing architectural licensure. Ginger Rabe Designs is on track to become nationally certified in kitchen and bath design. Single Story’s has found its direction and is growing quickly. Design Coach Collective continues to support designers nationwide.
Being mobile allows us to keep costs reasonable for clients, increase efficiency, and stay aligned with the future of our industry. We will still be hosting events just as we always have in partnership with our favorite industry showrooms. You will continue to see us everywhere: on job sites, at industry events, across social media, and in publications such as Modern Luxury.

From our beginnings in Vista, to LA, to Carlsbad, and now across the country, this 20+ year career has been an ongoing adventure. And the best part is that we get to bring each of you along with us into this next chapter.
